I REFER to the proposal by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to make Kuala Lumpur the “pioneer disabled-friendly city in Malaysia”.

I personally welcome her idea and hope the proposal will materialise as finally, the authority in charge of championing the disabled community’s rights has decided on a very pivotal issue.

The disabled advocates in this country have tried for years to put forward the idea of building a disabled friendly country and finally we see a positive statement by the minister.

It is high time the relevant authorities ensure strict compliance to all legislations which provide accessibility to infrastructure and buildings. We already have the basic laws in place and the problem we are facing is their implementation.

President, Damai Disabled

Persons Association,
