Ponggal event was organised by Damai Disabled Persons Association of Selangor and Federal Territory and MALAYSIA HINDHUDHARMA MAMANDRAM at (Damai) headquarters here
About 200 Damai members and residents around Jalan Carey were entertained to cultural dances and songs during a dinner.
Damai chairman V. Murugeswaran said the association held the event for the first time since it was formed in 1998.
“We also want to promote and preserve the unique and significant cultural festival of the Indian community in the country,” he said.
He also announced that the facilities for the first disabled-friendly Indian temple in the country would be made at Ramalingeshwara Temple in Bangsar.
Murugeswaran said the temple would have easier access and special parking spots and toilets for the disabled, while a ramp would be built near the staircase.
